Getting Tough

I got my tax return so it was computer replacement time. Rather than a new Toughbook at over $1500 I ended up getting my son a slightly used one at around $650 all told for his graduation present. It's "last year's model" and everything that used to be in it has been scrubbed, the OS and all the components were re-installed, it has some nice add-ons, plenty of memory and RAM, is wi-fi capable, really is everything I would have gotten for $1500 plus except that there are a few scratches on the case. This means that I'll be able to get one for myself too. The model I'm getting for myself will be around $500 all told. It's a couple of years old but works beautifully. The computer I've been using runs, but it has lots of glitches and only 250 MB of RAM and it crashes a lot. I'm looking forward to giving the old-new Toughbook a go as soon as it arrives!
I was looking at the computer specifications for the school that my son will be going to. Now back when this old geezer went to school, we didn't even have internet capabilities. For my son, you are not allowed to have dial-up access in your dorm room! Your computer must be DSL and/or wireless capable. Well, my kid's will be both--and on my salary yet! I feel kinda proud.
On the other hand, I'm thinking I'm a bit of an idiot. I fell asleep at about 5 this afternoon and didn't get up till about 8:30. I didn't bring any food with me to work so I ordered a sandwich for delivery just now. Nothing wrong with that except that I've become so debit card dependent that I paid with the card even though I have cash. I really didn't want to do that, it's just a habit. Oh well, whatever.
I have some new magnetic signs for my car advertising one of my business ventures and I also have a business and finance related blog. Have a look if you want.

He may need a wireless router for the dorm room to have internet access. But do not worry - his roommate will probably have one. And if not, that is not a problem because the room next door will have a wireless router. In short, there will be so many open routers that access is not going to be a problem!!

My computer had 512 megs memory. Then it died, and I started to use another laptop. It also had 512 megs ram which I upgraded to 2 gigs. It did make a difference.

Buying last years computer works. You really do not need the newest thing out there. You also save a significant amount of money.
