143 days experience--or Sarah Palin

I received this email. Read all the way to the bottom before going off on my ass.

143 DAYS . . .

Here is some measurable perspective to help folks decide where they want to go with their vote for the Presidency of the United States of America!

I personally like candidates to have a real history of service to our country that can be calculated and measured the good and the bad? We need a new direction that is for sure. We can do it? Kind of a silly slogan or cliche in my view. We have always done it and will continue to do it! We need leader ship that comes from calculated measurable experiences. Perhaps a leader with a real plan? Do your own research to look at both candidates an then make a prudent sound decision come election day for the next President and Vice President of the United States of America.

You couldn't get a job at McDonalds and become district manager after 143 days of experience.

You couldn't become chief of surgery after 143 days of experience of being a surgeon.

You couldn't get a job as a teacher and be the superintendent after 143 days of experience.

You couldn't join the military and become a colonel after a 143 days of experience.

You couldn't get a job as a reporter and become the nightly news anchor after 143 days of experience.

BUT....

'From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United States Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.. After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World .... 143 days.

We all have to start somewhere. The senate is a good start, but after 143 days, that's all it is - a start.

AND, strangely, a large sector of the American public is okay with this and campaigning for him. We wouldn't accept this in our own line of work, yet some are okay with this for the President of the United States of America? Come on folks, we are not voting for the next American Idol!

Now, here is what I replied:

Point taken, but at least he has two brain cells to rub together and seems rational. If something were happen to McCain, that doofus Sarah Palin would take over and the way she handles things scares the hell out of me. She's against a woman's right to choose, doesn't care about the environment, has wolves (including pups) hunted for a bounty, including aerial hunting, has officials fired simply because she doesn't like them, and beyond that, she strikes me as being just plain nuts.
McCain doesn't strike me as being a wacko, but he is a hawk and shows no signs of trying to wrap up the Iraq war or discontinue the spending of 10 billion dollars a month in Iraq. That money could be better used to improve conditions for poor families here.

BTW--Less than a week to vote for your favorite Netherworld Candidates, y'all! Go to the Side Bar. So far the Really Really Right Wing Reactionary Party is way ahead. I don't know if it's Nixon's charisma or what, but I sure hope it ain't a reflection of what's gonna happen in the real world!
The comforting thought is that the Sewer Party and the Cannibal Party remain voteless. I like the Handy Party and the Porn Party does have the charm of being blatantly honest, but personally I'm stumping for the Unspeakable Party because you just shouldn't settle for the lesser evil.

For the Kids

Happy Candy Overeating Day from your friends at the Hub

I know--Candy Overeating Day has not yet passed, but you know what time of year it's getting to be. If you do gifts for whatever reason in December, you are possibly already screaming and tearing your hair out because it's been a pretty tough year. The great thing about young children is that they can have fun with simple things, and learning and fun are often one and the same. Plus their gifts are often more affordable. If you have pre-school aged kids or grandkids, take a look at my Lemonade Stand. Click the link or ook to the right and you will find in my sidebar, or...hey, what do you know? It's at the bottom of this post too! Take a look for some gift ideas to get the young ones started learning and enjoying it.
It may be a sappy cliche, but kids really are our future. I truly believe that. And if they enjoy learning, their chances for a good future are stronger.
No applause please--just throw candy!

My terribly useful thoughts on electronic learning toys

These were the thoughts I submitted to a survey about electronic learning gadgets such as Leap Frog.
The electronic learning toys and computer programs ARE useful. Even as an adult one of the ways I've learned difficult subjects such as medical terminology is by playing games that help me forget that it's such a "serious" subject. However, although these learning tools are useful, for children there is nothing better than to learn by being physically as well as mentally involved. Playing with building toys or playing real-world games and of course physical activity are very essential and can never be replaced by electronics.

31 Meme

I was tagged by Raine to do this meme. One is supposed to answer the questions with one word. Like that's gonna happen!

1. Where is your cell phone?
purse
2. Your significant other?
ethereal
3. Your hair?
Gray and red
4. Your mother?
Uh...how do I answer that in one word? She's a retired geriatric nurse, 69 years old, full-time caretaker for my handicapped father.
5. Your father?
Retired college professor. 72 years old. Had a major stroke in June of aught-four. Now mostly confined to a wheelchair, though can walk a few steps with help. Had untreated high blood pressure. Check your blood pressure at least weekly! Those do-it-yourself devices are readily available from Wal-Mart and aren't terribly expensive.
There are natural methods that work well (at least for me) to normalize borderline high blood pressure. I take Pressur-Lo from Futurebiotics and 2 90 mg potassium tablets a day. My blood pressure went from being around 138/88 to around 125/80 on average. The only side effect is it makes your pee smell like garlic, but that's a small price to pay.
My brother, on the other hand, does have to take a blood pressure medication. He takes Lysinopril (may not have spelled that right) which works well for him without the problems inherent to beta blockers. However, it makes some people cough uncontrollably, soit isn't for everyone.
That was waaay more than one word, but blood pressure is mega important. Check yours regularly, even if you are young. Idiopathic high blood pressure can strike at any age in even healthy individuals. So check it. Now!!!!
