My terribly useful thoughts on electronic learning toys

These were the thoughts I submitted to a survey about electronic learning gadgets such as Leap Frog.

The electronic learning toys and computer programs ARE useful. Even as an adult one of the ways I've learned difficult subjects such as medical terminology is by playing games that help me forget that it's such a "serious" subject. However, although these learning tools are useful, for children there is nothing better than to learn by being physically as well as mentally involved. Playing with building toys or playing real-world games and of course physical activity are very essential and can never be replaced by electronics.

Capital Punishment

And now for something completely controversial--my thoughts on the death penalty.

It's not so much that I think that "all lives are precious," although the spark of the divine is in even the most vile of people. I'd be perfectly fine with offing the BTK killer or individuals like him who inflict horrific pain and suffering on others. The problem comes in when innocent people are sometimes wrongfully accused. There have been cases where a person has been put to death where to me there was more than a shadow of a doubt as to his/her guilt. This is the reason that I cannot support the death penalty in good conscience.

McCrap

After 15 years in my mechanic has decided to close up shop. Too much competition from the McMechanic places who pay their employees squat and that's why they can charge so little. He also had trouble finding decent help that would stick around and didn't either flake out or move on to something else because being a mechanic is hard work. Also trying to keep costs reasonable for the customers while dealing with increased costs for materials and taxes.
Whenever I took the car for an oil change or basic maintenance I would always eat at the restaurant across the street. I actually worked there for 3 years back in the early part of the decade. But that's a story for another time. That restaurant has been there for almost 90 years, owned by the same family, and I remember sometimes business was scarce because everyone was going to the chain restaurants. It isn't a friendly climate for small businesses around here what with all the McMansions and McRestaurants and McShops with the suburban sprawl appealing to the McResidents who don't care a whit about supporting their community businesses because they don't want to McThink. It's easier when everything is just a clone of everything else.
Don't even get me started on the system of McMedical "care" that currently exists. Trauma medicine has vastly improved during the past 50 years, but as far as receiving any kind of personal care from a doctor that will listen to you? There are more medical errors than ever because doctors are harried and don't know jack shit about their patients.
Right now I think I need a prescription for Extra Strength Fuckitol.

Here at last is a man with the balls to tell it like it is.

Something that would like to see happen in my lifetime, but it probably won't, is an end to racism.

But like Jason Whitlock says, it doesn't do any good to blame other races when you're killing your own.

There are some decent people in the world.

Although he was breaking the law by attempting to enter the United States illegally, Manuel Cordova did the right thing when he helped a boy whose mother had been killed in an accident. This is someone who deserves good luck and I hope he gets it.
